Footloose 2015

eBay (my employer) has a wonderful tradition:
every five years, employees are encouraged to take a month-long sabbatical break.  It is a great opportunity to put work aside temporarily, focus on a personal interest, and return recharged.

Katie and I are leaving for a cycling holiday in the Netherlands soon. Guaranteed to be cold most days, soaked with rain some days, and tired by the end of pretty much every day. This is my idea of fun and recharging?  They say it takes all kinds.

Trip will be divided roughly into 3 parts.

First half:  A bike/barge tour, the Super Tulip Tour.  Starting in Amsterdam, riding around the countryside in the day and rejoining the Anna Antal -- a nice canal boat remodeled as a floating home for cyclists -- in a new location each evening.  Easy cycling, and a great opportunity to get our legs back in shape.

Second half:  Renting an efficiency apartment in Alphen aan den Rijn, and making day trips as we like by bike or train.

Third half:  Katie heading home unfortunately, while I ride a sort of random route through central Netherlands.  Have some notion of probable route at this point, but this part may be kind of improvised depending on the weather and my whim.
